![]() The Youth Organizations Coalition (YOC) took a significant step forward in fostering stronger partnerships between community organizations and the educational system by meeting with administrators from Volusia County Schools on January 31, 2025. This introductory meeting aimed to familiarize both groups with each other, especially with the newer members in VCS administration, and to discuss collaborative opportunities for supporting students and enhancing youth services provided outside the traditional classroom environment. While YOC strives to organize joint meetings annually, this was the first time a large group of coalition members could come together, helping school administrators appreciate the depth and breadth of community support available for youth. The gathering brought together a diverse group of coalition members and school administrators, each committed to finding innovative solutions to support the holistic development of students.
The discussions covered a wide range of topics, from after-school programs and mentorship opportunities to addressing mental health needs and promoting leadership skills among the youth. VCS administrators also shared their current focus on ensuring students are not hungry, are regularly attending school, are not disruptive, and most importantly, are Learning. Participants shared insights into the challenges and successes faced by both schools and community organizations, emphasizing the importance of working together to create comprehensive support networks for students. The dialogue highlighted how these partnerships can fill gaps in services, providing students with additional resources and opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. All attendees expressing enthusiasm for future collaborations. Plans are underway to develop joint initiatives that will strengthen the support system for students across Volusia County. The YOC is excited to continue this partnership, ensuring that the success of our youth are advanced in every way possible.
